This is the most popular endorsement to add to your Mortality coverage. This endorsement provides coverage for the reasonable and customary cost of medical and/or surgical procedures performed on your horse as a result of an accident, illness, injury or disease. This coverage is available on horses between the ages of 6 months and 15 years, non-racing animals. Routine medical and pre-existing conditions are not covered by this endorsement. There are limits of liability available from $5,000 to $10,000. A deductible will apply to each claim during the policy period. We can help you determine the best limit of liability for your horse’s insured value, and intended use.
Emergency Colic Surgery Endorsement
Several of the insurance companies we represent offer an Emergency Colic Surgery endorsement as part of their basic Mortality policy, at no cost to you. This endorsement is limited in the amount it will pay if your horse requires emergency colic surgery in order to save its life. This endorsement is not available on any horse with a history of colic, prior colic surgery or other gastro-intestinal disorders. Ask us for more information if you are interested in this coverage.
This endorsement provides coverage for the actual cost of a surgical procedure performed on your horse, and provides after care coverage for a short period of time after a surgical procedure. Limits of liability are available from $2500 to $10,000. A deductible may apply to each claim during the policy period.
Territorial Limits Including Transit

External Loss Of Use
This coverage provides that in the event your horse is permanently no longer able to perform it intended function as listed on the declarations page of your policy, as a result of a visible, external, accidental and violent means, you will be paid a percentage of the amount of indemnity due under the mortality policy (usually 50%). Incapacity must be due to external and violent means. This endorsement does not cover loss of use due to degenerative disease, arthritis, or the inability of a horse to perform it intended due to age or ability. Available for horses ages 1 through 16 years, selected uses only.
Agreed Value/Guaranteed Renewal
This endorsement will amend the limit of liability on your horse from Fair Market Value to Agreed Value during the current policy term. This endorsement also guarantees the renewal of your Mortality coverage for the subsequent 12 month policy period without the need for a Veterinarian Certificate or Statement of Health. If your horse suffers from a lameness, illness, injury or disease during the policy period and the condition was reported to the insurance company, the company will not exclude the condition at renewal. In order to qualify for this endorsement your horse must not have suffered from any illness, accident, injury or disease within the 12 months preceding the effective date of your coverage.
This is a brief description of the Animal Mortality coverages offered. Please refer to your policy wording for complete details of coverages, conditions and exclusions.
